China's Gas Pipeline Project to Start SoonChina's west-east gas pipeline project will get underway in a short time, Deputy General Manager of the China National Petroleum Corporation Yan Sanzhong said Thursday in Xi'an.The huge gas pipeline project, a key project in China's western region development strategy, is aimed to send natural gas from the resources-rich west to the energy-thirsty eastern coastal region. The pipeline, cutting through nine provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities from Xinjiang to Shanghai will be more than 4,000 kilometers long. The pipeline is estimated to cost at least 40 billion yuan (4.8 billion U.S. dollars) and is capable of supplying 12 billion to 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year. At the on-going international forum on the western development, Yan, whose company will be a major player in the construction of the project, said everything has been ready for the completion of a high-quality pipeline according to schedule. The project is fully open to foreign companies, and Yan said both domestic and overseas companies are welcome to invest in or participate in the construction of the pipeline.
