Japan, S.Korea, US Hold Meeting Over Korean PeninsulaThe Trilateral Coordination and Oversight Group (TCOG), which includes Japan, South Korea and the United States, held its expert-level trilateral talks here Thursday over their regular coordination of policies toward Korean Peninsula, Japan's Kyodo news services reported.Senior officials from the three countries are expected to discuss the proposal by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) earlier this week to resume dialogue with South Korea, the report said. The resignation of the South Korean cabinet in connection with a no-confidence motion passed the previous day against Unification Minister Lim Dong Won will also likely be taken up as an element that could affect the situation on the Korean Peninsula, according to the report. Thursday marks the third round of TCOG talks to take place this year. The Japanese delegation was led by Kunihiko Makita, director general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, the report said. The South Korean delegation is headed by Yim Sung Joon, deputy minister for foreign affairs, while the U.S. group is led by James Kelly, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, it added. |
