At Least Two Reportedly Killed by Gunman in Los AngelesPolice are searching for a gunman after at least two people were killed and five others were shot wednesday in a suburb of Los Angeles, U.S.According to Simi Valley Police Department spokesman Lt. Richard Thomas, police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire at 3:45 p.m. local time. Simi Valley police and Ventura County firefighters found five victims in a home. ABC Los Angeles affiliate KABC and other local stations first reported that six people were shot, but police later confirmed that the number was only five. A sixth person hurt himself leaping out of a window as he fled the gunfire, KABC reported later. Local stations reported that two of the five gunshot victims were killed. Thomas said as many as three people may have died but said that information had not been confirmed. Police have no idea what motivated the shooting and have not identified a suspect, Thomas said. But, according to police, the suspect is said to be driving a dark-colored SUV and is possibly a male Hispanic. Two of the victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old girl, were taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where they were being treated for gunshot wounds, hospital spokesman Jeremy Brewer said. Wednesday's shooting comes less than a week after a former policeman barricaded himself in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita and shot and killed a police officer before presumably dying in a fire during a four-hour standoff with police. |
