China Encourages Development of Western Land Resources
Preferential treatment will be applied to development of land resources in China's western region, said a senior Chinese official Thursday at the ongoing Western Forum in Xi'an.
Lu Xinshe, vice-minister of Land and Resources, said that the preferential treatment aims to facilitate the implementation of China's huge project of developing the western region.
Lu said that his ministry will invest more in the exploration and evaluation of land resources in western regions and devote more effort to the construction of key energy and transportation projects in the western region.
Charges on the land used for infrastructure construction will be collected in line with the minimum level.
The rights to use the western land can be inherited, transferred and mortgaged.
Those using western mine resources may apply for the alleviation of charges.
The Ministry will take measures to encourage foreign businessmen to explore the western region.
Lu also said that China had set goals of developing the western region. These goals include providing land for infrastructure construction, making breakthroughs in mineral resources exploration, rationally utilizing land and water resources and curbing the deterioration of the environment in the western region.
