Beijing Recovers Evaded Taxes from Foreign-funded firms

A total of 150 million yuan (about 18.1 million U.S. dollars) in taxes evaded by overseas businesses based in Beijing was paid back in the first eight months of the year.

This large volume of taxes is from just half of the 47 tax evasion cases handled by tax enforcement officials the Beijing Local Taxation Bureau from January to August, Thursday's "Morning Post" quoted bureau sources as saying.

Among them, two overseas financed companies alone were found to have evaded taxes worth 130 million yuan (about 15.67 million U.S. dollars).

Sources from the branch said that they have been working hard to check the tax paying records with the remaining half of the tax evasion cases.

The Beijing Local Taxation Bureau set up an inspection branch in October last year, for checking the tax payments made by Beijing-based foreign companies, overseas-financed businesses and individuals working with them.
