FM Spokesman: Fourth China-EU Summit A Success

The fourth China-EU summit, as "a great success," will direct the future development of a comprehensive partnership between China and the European Union (EU) in the new century, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao Thursday.

The summit will also establish a sound political foundation to expand China-EU cooperation in all areas on the basis of mutual benefit, said Zhu at a regular press conference.

Zhu noted that Chinese and EU leaders agreed to increase exchanges and cooperation in the fields of trade, communications, culture, science and technology between China and the EU, and consented to stronger China-EU political dialogue and cooperation in fighting against illegal migration and human trafficking.

A joint press statement was issued at the fourth summit meeting between Chinese and EU leaders in Brussels Wednesday.

At the summit, leaders of the two sides exchanged in-depth views on the China-EU relationship and international and regional issues of common concern and reached consensus on a broad range of issues.
