Former Falun Gong Follower Wakes Up to Reality"I will never sacrifice myself to the Falun Gong cult," said Duan Jifang, a former Falun Gong follower, after realizing the evil nature of the cult.
Duan, 21, said she was sorry for the pains and sufferings she had brought to her family and friends, and for the troubles she caused to all the people who took care of her.
Misled by her mother, Duan began practicing Falun Gong in December 1998, a crucial time during which she was preparing for the college entrance exams. Bewitched by the heresy of Li Hongzhi, leader of the Falun Gong cult, she became totally obsessed with the cult.
Duan, together with her mother, participated in illegal gatherings of Falun Gong followers time after time, and after she became a student at Hehai University in September of 1999, she even spread the "teachings" of Li Hongzhi among her teachers, classmates and friends.
According to law, Duan was detained for 12 days for disturbing the social order in January, 2000. She was also sent to the Judong Education-through-labor camp, in east China's Jiangsu Province, for disturbing the social order in Tian'anmen Square in February this year.
At first, Duan was quite indifferent to all things when she was at the reeducation school and she thought that the reeducation was a "test," arranged by Li Hongzhi, on her road to the "Heavenly Kingdom".
Workers at the reeducation camp made every effort to help Duan to break with Falun Gong. They talked with Duan about laws, the love of family members and relatives, and the stories of other former Falun Gong followers who have broken with the cult.
In April this year, Duan wrote a letter promising that she would never practice Falun Gong.
She repented very much that she had left university to practice Falun Gong, and expressed the hope to return to Hehai University.
The university sent a teacher and two students to visit her at the reeducation school in June and accepted Duan's wish to go back to university late August.
