Macedonian President Sees Bright Future in Ties With China

Prospects of Macedonia-China relations are bright, said Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski on Wednesday when accepting credentials of new Chinese ambassador Zhang Wanxue.

After asking Zhang to convey his best wishes for Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Trajkovski said there has been a traditional friendship between the two peoples, which was never interrupted even when bilateral relations suffered setbacks.

Macedonia decided earlier this year to sever ties with Taiwan and restore diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The government of the People's Republic is widely recognized as the sole legitimate representative of the whole China.

Trajkovski said the Macedonian government will stick to a one China policy and is devoted to the development of all-round cooperation with China.

The Chinese ambassador passed on Jiang's greetings to the Macedonian president and expressed China's hope to continue good relations with Macedonia.
