UNESCO Launches Book on Anti-racism
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched a book "United to Combat Racism" Wednesday in Durban to brief on the international community's struggle against racism.
The book, with prefaces by UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura and Mary Robinson, U.N. High Commissioner For Human Rights and secretary-general of the current World Conference Against Racism, is divided into three parts.
Part I examines the fight against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance from a variety of perspectives, including education and economics. Part II features existing universal instruments against racial discrimination, while Part III includes the regional instruments adopted by the Council of Europe, the Organization of African Unity and the Organization of American States.
Dedicated to the World Conference Against Racism, the 638-page book was prepared by the UNESCO's Division of Human Rights, Democracy, Peace and Tolerance in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
