Nepali King Vows to Promote Friendship With ChinaNepali King Gyanendra said Wednesday in Kathmandu that he will spare no efforts to strengthen and enhance the centuries-old friendly relations with China."Late King Mahendra and late King Birendra made great contributions to the development of friendship between Nepal and China. I, for my part, will follow their footprints and do my best to promote the good relations between the two countries," Gyanendra said this while meeting a military delegation of the Chengdu Military Region of China. Gyanendra said that he will not allow any anti-China activities to be conducted within Nepalese territory. The Nepali king also highly praised the good relations and close cooperation between the armies and wished the cooperation to be further strengthened and enlarged. Speaking on the occasion, Lt. General Liu Baochen, delegation head, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the assurance by King Gyanendra not to allow any anti-China activities to be conducted in Nepal. He said Chinese President Jiang Zemin and the late King Birendra reached the consensus in 1996 to build good-neighborly partnership that will be handed down from generation to generation, adding that his visit was in response to the consensus to further enhance the friendship between the two countries. The seven-member delegation arrived here Saturday on a six-day goodwill visit at the invitation of the Royal Nepal Army. |
