Chinese Women Enjoy More Education Opportunities: SurveyA recent survey found that Chinese women are more likely to receive education than they were a decade ago.The All-China Women's Federation and the National Bureau of Statistics jointly surveyed 48,192 women throughout the country. The survey found that only one in ten women aged between 18-64 is illiterate compared with three in ten back in 1990. Half of the women have received secondary education and the number enjoying higher education has tripled the rate of ten years ago. Meanwhile, the discrepancy between the education opportunities for men and women is narrowing as more women are being encouraged to continue their studies. The average length of Chinese women's schooling is six years, only one and a half years shorter than that of males. Statistics gathered in the survey also show that women are tending to have increasing chances for further education. "Women try harder to learn more skills and secure a more qualified degree when they are working," concluded the survey. |
