China to Foster Own Three Tenors

Three Chinese tenors Nie Jianhua, Jin Yongzhe and Tian Li are scheduled to hold another concert in Beijing after their successful debut in April.

Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras created their Three Tenors team in 1990 when Italy held the Football World Cup and consequently their voices spread around the world. Their initial performance in Beijing's Forbidden City aroused a Chinese thirst for their own top tenors.

In fact, a group of outstanding tenors have grown up in China over the last two decades including Dai Yuqiang, who was chosen by the agent of The Three Tenors after he showed his talent during the Tenors' concert in Beijing. But so far, Chinese tenors have failed to become more well known due to the inflexible domestic performance system.

The three young men, who have won a series of international awards, wanted to try a new approach to the market. They will present classic arias by The Three Tenors and some traditional Chinese folk songs in the coming concert.

Domestic sopranos will also be invited to join the performance.
