Liaison Office to Serve Macao's Stability, Development

The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will serve better Macao's long-term stability and development, the Macao residents, the modernization drive and the reunification of the motherland, according to a high official.

Li Yongwu, deputy director of the liaison office, made the remarks here Wednesday at the inauguration ceremony of a Macao preparatory committee to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which falls on October 1.

He noted that the liaison office will abide by the principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy in Macao and observe the Basic Law of the Macao SAR, and will not intervene with the internal affairs of the SAR.

The liaison office will give full support to the work of the SAR government headed by chief executive Ho Hau Wah, he said.

The office will, as always, contact people from all walks of life in Macao to promote cooperation and exchanges in the fields of trade, science and technology, education and culture between China's inland and Macao, the official noted.

The fast-growing economy of China's inland, its entry into the WTO and the "go-west" campaign will inject more vitality into Macao's development, he said.
