Severed Kyongui Railway Line to Resume Partial Service This Month

A severed inter-Korean railway line will resume partial service later this month after half a century of disuse, the South Korea National Railroad (KNR) said Wednesday.

The KNR said it recently completed laying track on a 6.8-km section of the 12-km South Korean part of the Kyongui Line's severed section under a reconnection project following an agreement with DPRK last year.

Facilities

A working-level delegation from the Russian railway ministry on Tuesday began a survey on DPRK railway facilities as part of preparations to link the Trans Siberian Railway (TSR) and an inter-Korean railroad, a South Korean government official said Wednesday.

"The first group comprising some 60 officials arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday," the official noted. The delegates, including 15 railway technicians, will conduct the survey over a period of two months.
