The 21st Universiade Village ClosedThe 21st Universiade Village closing ceremony was held September 3 afternoon, present at which and addressing the closing ceremony were Vice Chairman of the Universiade Executive Committee and Vice Mayor Liu Jingmin and village head Zhang Jianmin.During the 20 days starting on August 15, the Universiade Village accommodates a total of 6,500 athletes. It has been kept in normal operation by 800 people working round the clock to guarantee water and electricity supply. Environment departments have been credited with a lot of work for cleaning roads, decorating the village with 150,000 pots of fresh flowers. Medical aid has been provided for as many as 1,052 foreign and domestic athletes. Altogether 330,344 people had dined at canteens in the village. Liu said that the 21st Universiade has shown to the world by its a successful conclusion China's ability in hosting such a large sports event, much to the acclaim of world media. Being a new beautiful site of interest as it is now, it has contributed greatly to the hosting of the Universiade. Village head Zhang Jianmin also cited the commendable performances of his working staff and volunteers placing themselves wholeheartedly at the service of the Universiade for they have not let the Beijing municipal government and Beijing's 13 million people down. Their services rendered will help Beijing host the 2008 Olympics Games, he said at the closing ceremony of the Universiade Village amidst the song of International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the 21st Universiade flag gradually lowering down.
