US, Israel Pull out of World Conference Against Racism

Both the United States and Israel pulled their delegations out of the World Conference Against Racism on Monday.

They all condemned language proposed for the final statement of the conference as anti-Israel and anti-Semitic.

The ongoing conference which was opened in Durban, South Africa, last Friday will end on September 7.

The conference is to produce a declaration that recognizes the damage caused by past expressions of racism and reflects a new global awareness of modern forms of racism and xenophobia.

A strong practical program of action will also be adopted at the end of the conference.

According to Marc Bossuyt of Belgium, chairman of a working group for the conference, the draft documents for the conference are being drawn up.
