Anti-Fascist War Anniversary Observed in Beijing

People from non-Communist parties and scholars in Beijing attended Monday a meeting marking the 56th anniversary of the end of the Chinese people's War of Resistance Against Japan (1937-1945) and the international anti- Fascist war.

The participants said that the Chinese people's war against Japanese aggression was an inalienable part of the international anti-Fascist war, as China was one of the five major countries involved in the fight against Fascist invaders.

To fight against Japanese invaders, more than 35 million Chinese either died or were injured. The total economic losses China suffered are estimated at 600 billion U.S. dollars.

The participants denounced Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, which honors 14 Class A war criminals, and a Japanese history textbook's whitewashing of Japan's invasion of Asian countries during World War II.

These facts have aroused indignation from all the countries that suffered from Japanese aggression, they said.

The participants called on the Chinese people to inherit and develop the glorious tradition of never surrendering to invasion, contribute more to the country's modernization drive, and strive to maintain world peace and stability.
