Dengue Fever Kills 22, Afflicts Hundreds in Bangladesh

Dengue fever have killed 22 people and afflicted more than 560 people in Bangladesh this year, health officials said Monday.

Thirty-six dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka's hospitals in Sunday alone. They had admitted 150 during the previous two days, doctors said.

``The incidents of dengue fever this year could surpass those of last year,'' said Nurul Huda, a medical officer at Dhaka City Corporation, the municipal body. Last year dengue killed 126 people and affected nearly 5,500.

Dengue, also called ``the bone-breaking disease'' because of excruciating muscle and joint pain, is a viral disease spread by the female Aedis Egypti mosquito, the same insect that spreads yellow fever.
