DPRK Proposes to Resume North-South DialogueRim Tong Ok, vice chairman of the DPRK Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, sent a message Sunday to his South Korean counterpart, proposing to resume North-South dialogue at an early day.In the message to Rim Tong Won, South Korean minister of unification, Rim Tong Ok said that the historic June 15 North- South joint declaration, a valuable treasure for the Korean nation, gives great impetus to the improvement of North-South relations and the reunification of the nation. The North and South have paved a wider way toward reconciliation, unity and reunification by their concerted efforts in the spirit of the joint declaration. The message noted that the joint declaration, a landmark of reunification that reflects the national desire, has won the support and welcome from people at home and abroad as the days go by and the will of the Korean people to fully carry it out at any cost is getting stronger. This has been clearly confirmed by the grand national festival for reunification recently held in Pyongyang, the message added. The declaration was signed by DPRK leader Kim Jong Il and South Korean President Kim Dae-jung at the close of their first-ever summit in Pyongyang last year. The inter-Korean talks have been stalled along with the Pyongyang-Washington dialogue as a result of tough attitude by U.S. President George W. Bush. |
