Western China Commodity Fair Opens

The 13th West China Commodity Fair opened Sunday in Wuzhong, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China.

The fair, the largest in the northwest China region, is an annual event sponsored by 11 prefectures and cities in western China and the five western railway sub-bureaus of Xi'an, Lanzhou, Chengdu, Ankang and Yinchuan.

Over 6,000 businessmen attended the fair today, where some five billion yuan-worth of commodities are on display. The organizing committee expects the trade deals to reach three billion yuan and contracts on investment and cooperative projects involving 15 billion yuan to be signed at the fair.

Western China Economic Information Website

A website was also formally opened to promote economic information exchanges in China's western region.

The website, "www.cwecn.com", also marks the entry into the Internet of the annual western commodities fair, the largest local trading event in northwest China. Twelve fairs have been held in different localities in the region since 1989. Wuzhong city of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is hosting the current thirteenth fair.

Since the website's trial operation in May, more than 600 enterprises have registered as members, and the on-line trade volume has reached more than 100 million yuan-worth.
