Blast Rocks Chechen Govn't Building in Grozny, At Least One Killed

A powerful explosion ripped through the building of the federal government in Grozny, capital of Russia's Chechen Republic, on Monday noon, killing at least one people, Interfax news agency reported.

The blast occurred when a weekly conference chaired by the city administration head Akhmad Kadyrov was underway on the third floor.

The explosion killed a woman employee on spot and injured an unknown number of people, causing damage to windows and doors on one side of the house, said the report.

Nobody in the conference room was hurt, and the bombing device is believed to have gone off on the second floor.

Officials of the pro-Moscow government and staff have been evacuated, and a federal investigating group is being formed, Chechnya's military commandant was quoted as saying.
