Commodity Fair Opens in Liaoning

Hundreds of traders from more than 10 countries and regions on Sunday attended the opening ceremony of the Third Shenyang Commodity Fair in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Over 30 categories of products are being promoted at the five-day fair, including household electric appliances, hairdressing tools, telecommunications products and equipment, chinaware, and building materials.

Enterprises from Tianjin, Nanchang, Harbin, Changchun, Wuhan and 23 other Chinese cities are represented at the fair.

The berths at the fair covers 44,000 square metres. Some 1,600 berths are for overseas products manufactured by the United States, France and other countries or regions.

The annual trade fair was first launched in 1999 by local governments in cooperation with China General Chamber of Commerce.

The total turnover for the first two trade fair reached 3.46 billion yuan (US$400 million) in 1999 and 4.38 billion yuan (US$500 million) in 2000 respectively.
