Prevention of Human Trafficking Campaign Launched in Cambodia
The Ministry for Women's and Veteran's Affairs (MWVA) Monday launched an information campaign designed to prevent the trafficking of women and children in Cambodia.
At the inauguration ceremony, minister Mu Sochua said that the campaign is a part of a three-year prevention of trafficking project in conjunction with the International Organization for Migration.
It will make use of both theater and video material to get women and children educated so as to enhance their self-protection awareness.
One of the move is to encourage village groups to develop sustainable anti-trafficking mechanism, and the National Police has set up anti-trafficking hotlines in order to help encourage the denouncement of trafficking activities, the minister said.
Regarding the reason for trafficking, Mu Sochua said that Cambodia has no law for protection of women's rights and interests, and the women have not enjoyed the same rights as the men in the country.
An official from the Ministry of Interior revealed that this year 85 cases of trafficking of women and children have been cracked down, of them, six were done by people from France, Vietnam and Thailand, adding that about 560 policemen are involved the project.
