China's Women Beach Volleyball Team Beats Cuban Duo at Goodwill Games

China's pair Xiong Zi and Chi Rong Monday beat Dalixia Fernandez Grossat and Tamara Larrea Peraza of Cuba in three sets 17-21, 21-14, 16-14 in beach volleyball women's classification match at the Goodwill Games on Monday.

Cuba came out strongly in the first set, but the Chinese rallied to win the last two sets.

"We've got pretty stable psychology today," Xiong told reporters. "That is the key to the success."

Asked about their chances of finishing fifth Tuesday, Chi said they would have a chance, adding "it will be very hard as our opponent is very strong."

Under the format of the Goodwill Games, the winner of the match between the United States and Italy on Monday will play with China for the fifth place while the loser will contest seventh.
