Oil Tanks Catch Fire in Shenyang

Eight oil tanks caught fire early Saturday morning in this capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province. The fire was extinguished before an explosion could occur.

Fifteen fire brigades and more than 100 fire engines dashed to the scene as soon as the fire fighting department received the alarm, at about 4:30 in the morning.

It took 520 firefighters nine hours to put out the fire. The situation was extremely critical, as the fire was close to a large tank containing several thousand cubic meter of oil. The firefighters had to cool the neighboring tank with water while they fought the blaze.

The fire caused no casualties, and the cause is under investigation.
