Mainland Commodity Show Opens on Quemoy Island

A show of mainland commodities opened Friday on Quemoy Island, which is under Taiwan rule. This is the first show of its kind in the past 52 years.

The show at the island's gymnasium has drawn many local residents, many of whom expressed the wish that more such exhibitions could be held in the future.

About 50 enterprises from Jinjiang city in Fujian Province have brought 2,000-odd kinds of products to the show.

Zheng Zongjie, head of the mainland delegation called the show, sponsored by the chambers of commerce of Jinjiang and Quemoy, a good start for expanding cross-straits trade ties.

He called on the Taiwan authorities to allow the "three direct links" as soon as possible for the promotion of cross-straits economic and trade ties under the principles of "One China", direct and two-way, and mutually beneficial.
