Chinese Vice Premier Meets Greek Guests

Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen met Friday in Beijing with Manousos Paragioudakis, joint chief of staff of the Greek armed forces.

Qian said that China and Greece have maintained good cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields since the two countries established diplomatic ties. In particular, Chinese President Jiang Zemin's visit to Greece last year has lifted the bilateral relations to a new level.

Qian said that the Chinese government has attached importance to its relations with Greece, and he himself has visited the country three times.

He noted Greece will hold the 2004 Olympic Games, and China, as the host of the 2008 Olympic Games, will learn from its experience, and continue to develop friendly relations with Greece.

Paragioudakis said that his visit to China is a reciprocal visit to the tour to Greece by Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, early this year.

He said his talks with Fu early this afternoon were meaningful, and he believes that his visit would further the relations between the two armed forces.
