Sino-Dutch Cooperation Program to Protect Mountain

A Sino-Dutch cooperation program of Forest Conservation and Community Development (FCCD) has paid off thanks to the active participation of local people since it was implemented in the Gaoligong Mountain Natural Reserve regions three year ago.

Statistics show that a total of 7 million yuan (US$0.84 million) has been invested to promote community environmental protection campaigns in 36 local village communities in the regions, with 2.6 million yuan (US$0.31 million) from the FCCD and the rest provided by the local government.

According to the program, it will invest 1.7 million yuan (US$0.2 million) this year to carry out such campaigns in nine new village communities.

Gaoligong Mountain is located in the high-altitude northwest region of Yunnan Province and covers an area of more than 400,000 hectares. It boasts rare broad-leaved evergreen forest and coniferous forest ecological systems.
