Cultural Festival of Universiade Ends
The cultural festival of the 21 st World University Games ended Friday evening at Beijing's Zhongshan Park.
Students from Beijing University, Qinghua University, the Chinese People's University, China Music Conservatory and Beijing Jiaotong University participated in the cultural festival's closing ceremony, which was sponsored by Beijing Municipal Education Commission.
During the 11-day event, more than 10,000 performers and workers from 200 organs joined the festival, with the theme of " youth, friendship and peace."
According to statistics released by the universiade organizing committee, more than 200,000 people watched or took part in the giant cultural festival.
Zhao Dongming, executive general secretary of the organizing committee, said that it is a routine for multi-sports games organizers to carry out cultural festival.
Outstanding performances, including Peking Opera, ethnic singing and dancing, orchestra, acrobatics and ballet, were arranged at the Music Hall in Zhongshan Park, Chang'an Grand Theater, the Capital Theater and Poly Theater.
A China arts expo, a philatelic show, 16 mass carnivals and 14 open-air Chinese movie shows were also organized during the universiade.
In addition, "Night of Beijing" activities from August 23 to 31 at Beijing's major squares near the Athletes Village and in the eight districts of the city. A get-together of Chinese and foreign students on August 25 at the Chinese Nationalities Park.
