Kovarikova Leads Czech to Bronze in Women's Basketball

Jana Kovarikova scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Czech Republic to a 91-71 win over Lithuania in the women's basketball third-place play-off at the World University Games on Friday.

Vaclava Vojtova added 14 points while Marketa Mokrosova got 11 for the Czech, who shot 45 percent in the field (26-57).

Zuzana Klimesova held down 18 rebounds in addition to her nine points as the Czechs dominated the board with 44-23.

"I'm definitely satisfied with the bronze medal as we lost twice to China. Actually the third-placed finish really surprised me," said Czech head coach Marian Suoboda.

The Czechs took the lead earlier in the game, never letting their opponents coming close within 10 points.

China and the United States will vie for the championship Friday night.
