Hangzhou to Hold West Lake Expo

The West Lake Expo 2001 is scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, from October 20 to November 10 this year.

The exposition, aimed at boosting local economic and cultural development, will consist of dozens of exhibitions, conferences and other activities, including a national ornamental stones exhibition, a fashion show, a flower fair and an international symposium on traditional medicine.

The first West Lake Expo was held in 1929, attracting exhibits and visitors from all over the world.

Last year, the expo received more than 5 million visitors. It achieved a total trade volume of 7 billion yuan (just less than 1 billion US dollars) and contracted foreign investment valued at more than 16 billion yuan.
