China to Issue New RMB Notes

China will issue two new types of Renminbi (RMB) yuan notes with a face values of 50 yuan and 10 yuan, respectively, according to the People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, Thursday.

The 50 yuan note has green as its dominant hue, while the 10 yuan note is dark-blue.

Both notes have a profile of Mao Zedong on one side.

On the reverse of the 50 yuan note is a picture of the Potala Palace in the Tibet Autonomous Region, and on the reverse of the 10 yuan note is a picture of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.

The new notes will be in circulation starting September 1, the central bank announced.
