Mike Moore: China Able to Enter WTO in Early November

Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Mike Moore said Wednesday that China could join the WTO as early as this November except for possible delays by procedure.

Moore claimed that political barriers for China's entry into WTO had been swept away and it would soon bring to finish all the procedures. He is glad to see and sure to say that the process has entered into the last phase instead of lingering on substantial differences, he is quoted as saying.

Earlier, WTO officials have noted that all WTO members would formally approve China's participation into the organization in the next round of negotiations at Doha of Qatar scheduled November 9-13, which would render China to acquire its full membership in the first quarter of 2002.

Moore said China would probably realize its aim at that meeting but he cound not rule out the possibility that China would enter the WTO late as the yearend.
