Chinese Ambassador to Russia on Bilateral Relations, Cooperation

Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Deguang said here Wednesday the upcoming Moscow visit by Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji is a big event in bilateral relations and will further expand Sino-Russian cooperation in all fields.

Zhang said both sides attach great importance to this visit and he believed it would be a big success.

Zhang made the remarks in an interview with Xinhua on the eve of Zhu's visit, which he said aims at implementing the recent good-neighborly treaty on friendship and cooperation between China and Russia.

Under the guidance of the treaty, Zhang said, China and Russia will further strengthen their cooperation in all fields, including political dialogue, equal and mutual beneficial economic cooperation, personnel exchanges as well as the strategic coordination in global affairs.

The ambassador also said the two countries are enjoying sound development in economic and trade cooperation, as the bilateral trade turnover in the first seven months of this year reached 5.54 billion U.S. dollars.

The trade structure is experiencing positive changes with an increasing proportion of scientific and technology related products, he told Xinhua.
