China Snatches Mixed Doubles Tennis Title at Universiade
China's Zhu Benqiang and Li Na reaped the gold for the mixed doubles of the Universiade tennis tournament here Thursday afternoon, defeating Germany's Jan Boruszewski and Claudia Bensch, 6-3, 6-1 in the lopsided final.

This is China's first gold medal for the event in the Universiade.

Zhu and Li, the sixth seed and rated 1341st, upset the Germans, the second seed and ranked 870th, by their excellent volleys near the net.

The mixed doubles title is the last gold for the five-event Universiade tennis tournament which has ended now with three golds going to China.

During the last final of today, Zhu and Li had a complete control of the match and did not give their opponents any chance to catch up.

"This is our best-ever play in the mixed doubles competitions and we made little errors," Zhu said at the press briefing after the match.

"The teamwork was also excellent and Li did a better job in the competition," Zhu, the top male tennis player of China, added.

Li Na, China's No.1 female player who has won the women's singles and doubles of the Universiade before this final, said at the briefing that both of them played well.

Boruszewski, 23, said at the briefing that this is the first time for him and Bensch to play for their country.

"Zhu and Li did not make any mistakes in the final, which was very tough for us," Bensch said.
