China's Women Beach Volleyball Team Beats Greeks at Goodwill Games

China's women beach volleyball duo Chi Rong and Xiong Zi Thursday night beat Vassiliki Karadassiou and Efrosyni Sfyri of Greece 21-19, 21-19 at the Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia.

In a tight match, the Greek team matched the seventh seeds Chi and Xiong point for point for most of the two sets, but the Chinese team proved to be the stronger one.

"The biggest challenge for us is the psychological one," Xiong told reporters. "If we get over that, we'd perform better."

Asked about their future progress through the tournament, Xiong said: "We are here to start our preparation for the Olympics and all competition is good for us."

The duo, with a history of around four years and ranked ninth at the Sydney Olympics, will next match second seeded Brazilian duo Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede.
