Terminals for CDMA Network Exhibited

Terminals for the CDMA (code division multiple access) Network of the China United Telecommunications Corp. (China Unicom) went on display Thursday.

Sources from China Unicom said that this was part of market preparation for the operation of the network, scheduled for late this year or early next year.

The product-ordering show, sponsored by the Unicom Horizon Mobile Communications Co. Ltd, a subsidiary company of China Unicom, attracted 19 domestic CDMA terminal manufacturers.

It is learned that the CDMA network, covering some 300 cities in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions on the Chinese mainland, will be able to serve 15.15 million users upon completion of the first-phase construction of the network.

China Unicom is the country's second-largest mobile phone operator, and it is the only company in China with authorization to construct and operate a CDMA network.
