Tian and Hu Seal Chinese Sweep of Diving Titles

World champions Tian Liang and Hu Jia twirled away with the men's synchronized platform title Wednesday in a magnificent finale to seal China's sweep of all 10 diving crowns in as many events at the World University Games.

The Olympic silver medalists were head and shoulders above their rivals all through the five rounds of dives in the final. They took the lead from the first round and extended it with each round of dives, winning 350.88 points to clinch the gold.

Pak Yong Ryong and Choe Hyong Gil, from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, took the silver with 327.51 points, followed by Cuban pair Erick Fornaris and Jose Guerra, on 316.89 points.

"I was actually a little bit nervous on the platform," Tian said after taking his second title at the Universiade, after winning the individual platform crown Monday.

"Although this wasn't a very big event compared to the Olympics, I was still nervous because I would not like to make mistakes in a small event," said Tian, highboard champion at the Sydney Olympics last year.
