Shandong Exports More Machinery, Electric Products

East China's Shandong Province has reported sustained increase in its export of machinery and electric products, said sources here attending a recent meeting on the province's import and export of this product line.

During the January-July period, Shandong exported 2.1 billion US dollars worth of machinery and electric products, a 24.1- percent rise on annual basis, said an official. "The increase is 8. 5 percentage points above the national average," he said.

Han Yuqun, deputy-governor of Shandong, attributed the increase to the province's efforts to tap new markets, particularly the European and North American markets.

Statistics from the General Administration of Customs show that Shandong's exports of machinery and electric products to Europe and North America during the January-July period were up by 49 and 35 percent respectively.

Exports of air-conditioners, automatic data processing equipment and containers have all exceeded 100 million U.S. dollars in the first seven months. Meanwhile, personal computers and accessories, integrated circuits and telecommunication equipment are playing an increasingly important role in boosting the province's exports.

Shandong, an industrial base in China, produces air- conditioners, washing machines, large forging equipment, hydraulic excavators and bulldozers that sell well in the domestic and international markets.
