China Tops Group to Enter Semi-final in Men's Basketball

China topped Group G in the second round by beating Ukraine 98-82 to enter the semi-finals of the Universiade's men's basketball competition on Tuesday.

Wang Zhizhi was again the star of the game as the Dallas Mavericks center chipped in 28 points in a short 15 minutes pitching time. Yao Ming, 2.25 meters center, added 17 points and 11 rebounds in identical time.

Forward Zhang Cheng drilled in four out of six three-pointers to finish with 20 points for China, who had a perfect record so far in the competition.

Ukraine's M. Balashov was 0-8 on two-point basket but led the team with 15 points with four 3-pointers and three free-throws.

China took control early in the game before they ran for a 28- 15 lead at the first quarter.

Ukraine made some successive comeback in the second quarter to close the game at 53-46 before the break, but the Chinese broke away again in the third and never let their opponents come close.
