"Postal China 2001" Opens in Beijing

More than 80 Chinese and international postal operators and manufacturers gathered in Beijing Tuesday to show their latest advanced postal technology and equipment.

Those attending the exhibition come from China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Britain and the United States, as well as Hong Kong.

The Second China International Postal Technology & Equipment Exhibition ("Postal China 2001"), sponsored by the State Post Bureau of China and organized by the China National Postal and Telecommunications Appliances Corporation, opened Tuesday and will last till September 1.

"Postal China 1999", the first exhibition of its kind, was held two years ago concurrently with the 22nd Universal Postal Union Conference in Beijing.

The "China's Postal Show", covering an area of 1,176 square meters, displays China's latest postal technology and services, including the information, financial and logistics networks, along with several postal technology seminars.

During the five-day show, China's postal services are expected to sign cooperative agreements with large enterprises on logistics.

Sources claim that logistics services, representing the future of global postal development, have great market potential in China. Distribution services of logistics, which are expanding concurrently with e-commerce, can be seen everywhere in China.

According to statistics, China's production volume of logistics has reached 1,780 billion yuan (about 214.45 billion U.S. dollars), accounting for 20 percent of China's gross domestic product.

Owing to its unique advantages, China's postal service is very competitive in future logistics, experts say.

China's postal services now have the largest goods delivery network in the world with over 200 distribution centers, 67,000 sales stations, 30,000-plus postal cars, 150,000 postal workers, as well as postal airliners and information and financial network.
