August 28 saw the pipeline project for China's west-east gas transfer put underway by the Pipeline Technologies Company of China Oil & Gas Pipeline Bureau (hereafter referred to as CNPTC).
Following the Three Gorges Project, the west-east gas pipeline is another world-renowned project, also one of China's key infrastructure construction projects set by the Central Party Committee and the State Council for great development in the west. The project will transport natural gas from Xinjiang to the Yangtze River Delta by pipelines, which starts from Lunnan gas field in the Tarim Basin in the west to end in Shanghai via Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu. Along the way, the pipeline will go through Gobi desert, loess plateau, Luliang mountains, Taihang mountains, Taiyue mountains, and stride over the Yellow River, the Yangtze and Huai rivers, with a total mileage of 4200 km and the total investment is estimated at 150 billion yuan.
CNPTC is the only one in China specialized in long-mileage pipeline project. The company had finished several pipeline constructions, such as Shaanxi-Beijing gas pipeline, Seninglan and Sudan crude oil transfer pipeline projects. Undertaking 65 percent of the west-east gas transport project, the company will complete 313 km of pipeline construction. In order to accomplish the task with high quality and fast speed, the company has input 520 million yuan for purchasing an advanced set of equipment for the project.
