Chinese Mainland, Macao Sign Agreement on Mutual Judicial AssistanceThe Chinese mainland and Macao have reached an agreement on mutual judicial assistance, which will take effect on September 15.The agreement was publicized by the Supreme People's Court in the form of judicial explanation Tuesday. It will allow courts on the mainland and Macao to deliver judicial documents and gather evidence on behalf of each other in civil and commercial cases. The agreement is the first of its kind signed between the mainland and Macao for mutual judicial assistance since Macao returned to Chinese rule in December 1999. Li Guogong, deputy president of the Supreme People's Court, said it will have an important and positive impact on strengthening judicial co-operation between the two sides and offer a legal guarantee for the implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems." The agreement is a result of three rounds of consultations between the two sides starting in October last year.
