CPPCC Head Meets Cypriot Guests
Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with a visiting delegation from the Democratic Rally of Cyprus (DRC) led by its president Nikos Anastasiades.
Li welcomed the visit and conveyed General Secretary Jiang Zemin's greetings to Anastasiades.
He said that the peoples of the two countries have a long history of friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 30 years ago, senior leaders of both sides have made frequent visits and friendly cooperation in various fields has increasingly been developed.
The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with Cyprus to push forward the friendly relationship in the new century, he said.
Talking about the relationship between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the DRC, Li said that to catch up with the trends of the time, any political party, regardless of its history and position, must open its eyes to the whole world and reinforce relations and exchanges with other political parties. He expressed the belief that Anastasiades' visit will greatly promote exchanges and build closer relations between the two parties.
He introduced to Anastasiades the construction of the CPC, saying that with a history of 80 years, the CPC has had great development and made achievements that have been recognized by the whole world. It has accumulated a lot of successful experiences and also learnt some lessons.
Generally speaking, he said, all the causes under the leadership of the CPC have been developed smoothly, and yet there are still many problems which need to be studied and solved. Presently the whole party is making efforts to reinforce the ideological, organizational and work style construction in accordance with the Three Represents' put forward by General Secretary Jiang Zemin.
Anastasiades said that he visited China five years ago and since then the Chinese people have achieved great results in their opening and reform drive. China's development and advancement has not only benefited the Chinese people, but also benefited the world's peace and stability.
He said that Cyprus and China have maintained cooperative friendship relations on the basis of equality for many years, and the relationship is based on the commonly recognized rules governing international relations.
The DRC and the Cyprus government will make all efforts they can to promote the development of bilateral friendship relations.
The delegation came to visit China at the invitation of the CPC.
