Four-Nation Ministers' Meeting on Drug Control Reaches AgreementMinisters attending the China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand Ministers' Meeting on Drug Control Cooperation, which ended Tuesday in Beijing, reached agreement on international cooperation on drug control.The agreement, titled "Beijing Declaration", covers a wide range of cooperation fields. Ministers in charge of drug control from China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand agree: -- to take joint action in combating the criminal activities of illicit cultivation, production and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances; -- to make concerted efforts to promote the existing regional drug control cooperation mechanisms; -- to establish drug control partnership on the basis of the existing cooperation among the four countries and continue mutual understanding, trust, corporation and support in addressing drug problem; -- to recognize the importance of high level meetings and consultations for timely coordinating their position on major international and regional issues, including issue of drug control; -- to further strengthen exchange and cooperation at operational and expert level within the existing drug control cooperation mechanisms, conduct substantive cooperation and provide mutual assistance and support in drug prevention education, drug law enforcement, information exchange, treatment and rehabilitation, precursor chemical control, alternative development and personnel training. The ministers are also fully convinced that the meeting will promote further the drug control cooperation in the region and facilitate the existing drug control cooperation mechanisms. |
