Chinese Official: Saving Hostages by Philippine Must Get China's Consent

Wang Chungui, Chinese ambassador to Philippines on August 27 afternoon met with Guingona, vice president and minister of the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging the Philippines government to ensure Zhang Zhongyi's safety.

Wang Chungui expressed that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the kidnapping, the Philippines government should deal with it discreetly and must get Chinese government's consent before it seeks to save hostages.

In the morning of August 27, Wang Chungui expressed sympathy to relatives of those victimized and told them about the situation of the kidnapping and the Chinese government's attitude and stand on this matter.

Wang said that guaranteeing Zhang Zhongyi's safety is the No. 1 priority, regarding this, the Chinese government has brought up the strongest demand for the Philippine government.

In the meanwhile, ambassador Wang also gave condolence to relatives of the dead and soothed them not to be too anxious in dealing with the kidnapping, and asked them to cooperate with the government to deal with aftermath problems.
