Israeli Military Makes Two Incursions Into Palestinian Territory

The Israeli military launched two separate operations in the Palestinian-controlled territory early on Tuesday, one near the West Bank city of Bethlehem and the other in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian security sources said.

The sources said some eight Israeli tanks broke through Palestinian barriers and entered the village of Beit Jala near Bethlehem. Hospital sources in the area said one Palestinian woman was injured.

In the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli bulldozers, protected by tanks and troops, moved into the Rafah zone and destroyed a Palestinian house, the sources said.

The operations were apparently in retaliation for two separate attacks on the Israelis earlier Monday.

One Israeli got minor injuries in the Jewish settlement of Gilo near Beit Jala after being hit by Palestinian snipe fire. In the Rafah zone, armed Palestinians launched grenades at Israeli positions and exchanged heavy gunfire with them.
