Vice-President Hu Jintao Meets Lesotho Army Chief

Hu Jintao, vice-president of China and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, said Tuesday that China appreciates the one-China policy held by the Government of Lesotho.

Hu made the remarks during a meeting with Lt. General M. Mosakeng, chief of the Defense Forces of Lesotho, who is visiting China for the first time.

The vice-president noted that bilateral relations between China and Lesotho have developed smoothly since the two resumed diplomatic relations. Cooperation in various areas has resulted in successful results, he said.

"We appreciate the stance of the Lesotho Government on developing relations with China as well as its policy of upholding the one-China principle on the issue of Taiwan," Hu said. "China is ready to develop a long-term stable and friendly relationship with Lesotho."

Mosakeng said Lesotho is satisfied with the development of friendly relations between the two sides. He stressed that his government will continue to observe the one-China policy, and hopes to expand cooperation with China in the areas of politics, economics and others fields.
