President Jiang Zemin Meets with IOC PresidentJiang congratulated Rogge on being elected the IOC president and extended thanks to his support to Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games. Jiang Zemin said: "In the past twenty years, the cooperation between the IOC and the Chinese Olympic Committee has enjoyed great progress. The Chinese people are very happy to win the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games. I'm confident Beijing will do a very good job in preparing and organizing the 2008 Olympics and the central government of China will be behind it." Jiang Zemin also expressed his appreciation to Rogge's opinions of further developing the Olympic movement through "anti- corruption, anti-doping and keeping the Olympic Games to an ideal size". Rogge said: "The International Olympic Committee are very happy to award the 2008 Olympic Games to Beijing. It is a very important decision and we can see not only the Chinese people, but also people all over the world are very happy with it. The International Olympic Committee are here to help and support Beijing to make the 2008 Olympics the best possible Games in history." Rogge arrived here Monday for a two-day visit to Beijing. He also held meeting with Beijing Mayor Liu Qi and Chinese Olympic Committee president Yuan Weimin.
