Mozambique, Zimbabwe to Jointly Launch Cooperative Project
Mozambique and Zimbabwe are to launch a joint project in October to make full use of the Beira corridor that links Zimbabwe to the Indian Ocean, Radio Mozambique reported on Tuesday.
Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano and his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe signed on Monday a note of understanding on the project after talks in Beira, a port city in central Mozambique.
The program aims to reinvigorate use of the Beira corridor, which has been recently affected by the political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe.
The talks were preceded by a three-way meeting discussing the situation in Zimbabwe with Bakili Muluzi, president of Malawi and acting head of the Southern African Development Community, involved.
